EDWARD R. FLEURY,
Ed founded this practice in 1957 after his call to the bar that
year. Some of his first and enduring clients were patrons of his
father’s tavern business at the old Glen Eagle Hotel, where
Ed himself had worked part time to support himself in law school.
While initially Ed took on any kind of case, he quickly began to
specialize in real estate and corporate/commercial matters after
the late Bill Comery became his partner in the firm in 1960.
Ed has been active in local affairs over the years, including a
term as Chairman of the Scarborough Centenary Hospital where he
remains an active board member. He is also an avid golfer and is
a long standing member and former president of the Scarborough Golf
Club. Ed’s favourite kind of case involves municipal and administrative
matters including appeals to tribunals such as the Ontario Municipal
Board and the Assessment Appeal Board. E-mail: email@example.com
GREGORY E. McCONNELL,
Originally from Woodstock, Ontario, Greg attended Carleton University,
York University and finally the University of Toronto to complete
an M.A. in History. After a four-year stint as a teacher in Thailand,
Greg decided on law as his career. He graduated from Osgoode Hall
Law School and then was called to the bar in 1983. For five years
he articled and then practised law as a junior to a well-respected
personal injury lawyer, Paul Shannon. During this time he came to
deal with Bill Comery (now deceased), and in 1986 Greg moved to Fleury,
Greg will conduct most kinds of litigation including commercial
disputes, divorces, construction liens, estate litigation and even
dogbite cases. Greg’s community involvement includes several
years as Chairman of our local Heritage Festival, of which he remains
an active committee member. His favourite cases, such as estate
litigation and appeal work, involve legal research and writing where
it can make a difference. E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
STEPHEN P. FLEURY,

the firm in 1992 and has distinguished himself as a litigator in
family law and employment law. Stephen also practices in the areas
of Wills and Estates, and collection matters.
Stephen keeps himself busy outside the office with his young family,
and involvement as a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Stephen’s favourite kind of cases are trial matters.

MEET THE SUPPORT STAFF AT FLEURY COMERY
We are very proud of our staff. Most of our assistants are mature,
Ed Fleury long ago made it part of our office credo that family
comes first - but we feel that the ability of our staff to balance
home and the job results in a maturity and understanding attitude
that our clients appreciate at our end of the telephone line.
Our book-keeper and office manager, Gloria Soderstrom, has been
with Fleury, Comery since 1963. She has experienced the accounting
computer revolution, but her perspective quite rightly is on the
fundamentals of accounting for a legal practice. Our accountants,
who attend only once a year to do our statements, are in awe of
Gloria’s fastidious record-keeping and attention to detail.
For our clients, Gloria can provide instant answers as to the status
of their account with us. For our staff, Gloria is that mother figure
all of us need from time to time.
Maureen Murphy, Stephen Fleury’s assistant, has been with
Fleury, Comery since 1981. Starting as our receptionist, Maureen
quickly learned the ropes and became a personal secretary. Always
cheerful and lively, Maureen keeps both Stephen and his litigation
clients at ease, while staying focused on the case at hand.
Susan Nash joined us in 1996, and has been Ed Fleury’s prime
assistant since then. Susan commenced working in the legal field
at the well-known firm of Stikeman Elliott, and then spent five
years at Ontario Hydro in the property department before getting
out of the downtown rat-race. Although Susan specializes in Ed’s
real estate and development work, she is a quick study in any area
of law when called upon to assist.
Melissa, the youngest member of our staff, joined the
offices of Messrs. Fleury, Comery LLP in
January, 2009 as Gregory McConnell's
assistant. Melissa graduated from the Durham College Legal
Administration/Law Clerk program in 2008 and has experience in
family law, will and estates, and civil litigation. When
Mr. McConnell is not available, do not hesitate to
Rita Tuck came to work for Bill Comery in 2002. Rita’s interesting
background includes working for a number of years in Germany at
a Canadian Consulate. Since Bill’s retirement in June, 2005,
Rita has successfully and cheerfully handled the challenge of assisting
in our real estate practice, and Greg McConnell
in his litigation and estates work.
Our cheerful receptionist, Dawn Cook, joined us in May, 2006. She
has also juggled her duties at the front desk with secretarial work
for our lawyers. Dawn provides
a pleasant introduction for our office to our clients, both new
Theresa Lee-Wah is an extremely
experienced residential real estate clerk, whose services we were
fortunate to obtain in July 2006. Theresa works with Kate Mikos to deliver
efficient and prompt service to our real estate clients. Although
we emphasize Kate’s personal involvement as the lawyer in
our real estate files, our clients can be confident that their matters
are also being dealt with efficiently and carefully by Theresa.
