JUNE 22/11 - SHORT REPORT ON 2011 FESTIVAL

My point of view was limited, but it was clearly, overall, a very successful Festival this year. The weather:  spectacular!  Not a hint of rain, sunny, and not too hot.

The parade went really well, as usual!  Thanks Vesi Leal, parade chair!

Our Rock & Roll Dinner/Dance at Legion on JUNE 3 was a roaring success from all points of view - and it raised us more than $3,000 - money badly needed this year!  The prizes and silent auction donations were numerous and incredible. To see the list of donors in the list of volunteers sponsors and donors, click here. Huge thanks go to Dance organizers Tiuu Kask and Caitlin Smart, and many other spouses and volunteers who assisted!

The BED RACE took place again this year.  I understand that the Toronto Police team won this year, beating the incumbent Fire Department team. This grand and fun event in support of the Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital, was organized again by Carol Chabot.

Our Karaoke Funfest hosts again this year were Carol & Rob (The English Rose and the Mad Scot).  They organized a superb karaoke competition as entertainment in the beer garden, with 31 entrants!  The Highland Creek Idol this year was Tyra Johnson, followed by Momo MacLeod in second, and Jay Davis in third place.  The level of karaoke singing entertainment was the best I have seen.  John Robbie took videos of the singers..WOW!  Click here..

St. Joseph's Catholic Church had their plant sale and tea room.  Again I do not have a report, but undoubtedly the weather and crowd level supported a successful day for the church activities.  Carlo Vacca is our committee member representing the church, which has become a vital participant in the Festival.

The West Hill Highland Creek Lions organized the Children's Area in the St. Joseph's west parking lot.  Their bouncer supplied by the Fire Dept, and the minicar rides were there.  I do not have a specific report, but obviously all went well.  Heather Moeser co-ordinated this aspect of the Festival.

Sincere THANKS to all the local merchants advertising in our KARAOKE FLYER, that went out to the homes and businesses in the M1C area code just before the event.  See the flyer here.

Shawn Wludyka of BPM Music in the Village organized stage entertainment that was set over in the "Shamrock Plaza".  I do not have a report, but saw some stir over there in the afternoon, sounded like it was going very well!

The food at the Festival was co-ordinated by Lou Koutsaris.  We had the usual ice cream vendors, hot dogs and burgers, some ribs and slaw (by King Station Pub!), and a great caribbean food stand in our "food alley" on Morrish South.

The Town Crier, Bill McKee, attended for a second time this year, and he was a great help!  Thanks so much, Bill!

There are a lot of people we wish to thank.. Again, here is a list of the committee, sponsors, and donors this year.  Our annual general meeting is thus far scheduled for September 7, 2011 at 7pm at the Legion.. If you would like get involved for next year, let us know, and come on out!

We are probably having a wrap-up meeting in early July, and I hope to provide a better and more comprehensive report after hearing from the various committee members...
